Azure Arc connects the world of cloud and on-premise

The modern IT environment today is dispersed between on-premises data centres, public cloud, private cloud and edge devices. Companies are no longer using just one solution. They are combining different platforms, providers and technologies, which in practice brings complexity that is increasingly difficult to manage effectively. This is where Azure Arc, Microsoft’s technology that enables unified management of hybrid and multicloud infrastructure, comes in.

What is Azure Arc?

Azure Arc is an extension of the Microsoft Azure platform that lets you manage servers, databases, Kubernetes clusters, and other resources wherever they reside. In Azure, in another cloud such as AWS or Google Cloud, or on-premise. With Arc, IT teams can apply the same management, security and governance principles to all their environments as if they were natively part of Azure.

Why is Azure Arc key for companies?

Hybrid environments provide high flexibility and at the same time bring significant challenges. Different platforms, providers and technologies bring a multitude of tools, different rules and often chaos in administration. Azure Arc eliminates this problem by bringing all worlds together into a co-managed ecosystem, which is one of its greatest benefits.

IT teams no longer need to use dozens of different consoles or tools, they can manage everything from one place, via Azure Portal, CLI or API. Fewer tools means fewer errors, greater efficiency, and faster responses to change.

Another pillar is consistent security and compliance. Azure Arc allows you to apply the same security policies, access rules, and auditability to all environments. Whether it’s servers in the data center or Kubernetes clusters in the cloud. This significantly simplifies compliance with regulatory requirements and security standards.

Modernisation without migration is a significant advantage. Companies don’t have to move applications to the cloud to take advantage of its benefits. Azure Arc allows you to deploy services like Azure SQL Managed Instance or Azure Machine Learning directly on-premises. In practice, this means the ability to innovate without costly and risky moves.

Finally, there is preparedness for the future. With the growing importance of edge computing and IoT devices, the ability to manage distributed environments is becoming a necessity. Azure Arc is designed to support these scenarios as well, giving companies confidence that their infrastructure will be ready for the next technology shift.

Examples from practice

Financial: A bank with strict regulations can manage its on-premise databases through Azure Arc while leveraging cloud-based analytics tools without compromising compliance.
Manufacturing: Manufacturing plants with edge devices can be integrated into a unified IT ecosystem, simplifying management and increasing security.
Public administration: Government agencies can consolidate IT administration across multiple locations while complying with legislative requirements.

Why take an interest in Azure Arc today

Hybrid and multicloud environments will shape IT in the years to come. Azure Arc offers companies the ability to manage this reality transparently, securely and efficiently. For IT managers, architects and developers, it is a tool that combines the flexibility of the cloud with the control of an on-premises environment.

Azure Arc isn’t just a management tool, it’s a strategic platform that enables you to build cloud-native solutions anywhere. Combined with a DevOps approach, GitOps model, and automation, it brings a new way to approach IT infrastructure as if it were software.
